Because of the poisoning of China-US relations, many people in the United States take it for granted that China has competitive relations with the US, said Victor Zhikai Gao, chair professor at Soochow University and vice-president of the CCG.

But before more sanity is lost in the US, he said that we need to ask a fundamental question: Does China really compete with the US?

Gao said it is clear that China and the US have completely different national circumstances, political systems, ideology, cultural things, and ways of doing things. But this diversity should actually enrich them rather than divide them, he said.

And if China really does compete with the US, he said there'll will be probably no lasting peace in the world, either for the Americans, or for the Chinese, or for mankind as a whole.

However, China is very comfortable living in its own skin and has no desire to force the Americans to give up their own skin, he said, and China will never impose its political system and ideology or ways of doing things onto the Americans

“In a sense, it is your god for you and my god for me; it is live and let live,” he said,. “This is the right way going forward for China and the US.”
