Tourism rebound

Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region received more than 8 million tourist trips during the five-day May Day holiday, which ended on Wednesday. This marked a year-on-year increase of 140.81 percent, local authorities said. Total tourism revenue generated during the holiday surpassed 6 billion yuan ($869 million), up 192.18 percent year-on-year, according to the regional culture and tourism department. During the holiday, Xinjiang held various kinds of theatrical performances and cultural activities.

Air trips take off

China's air passenger trips surpassed 9.41 million during the May Day holiday, the Civil Aviation Administration of China said on Thursday. Air passenger trips averaged 1.88 million per day during the five days, increasing more than five times compared with the same period of 2022 and 4.2 percent from that of 2019, said the administration. In terms of flight numbers, the country handled 80,020 flights by domestic and foreign airlines in total, surging 238.31 percent from the same period in 2022.

Renaissance art

A show of 48 rare paintings from Florence's Uffizi Galleries, including 10 authentic masterpieces by early Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli, has attracted much attention since its opening in Shanghai ahead of the May Day holiday. The Botticelli and the Renaissance exhibition kicked off on April 28 at the Bund One Art Museum and will last until Aug 27. It has now become one of the most popular art exhibitions in the city.
