Interest in bird-watching has grown in Shanghai

Taking up bird-watching has provided him better opportunities to appreciate birds in their natural habitat. One of his favorite species is the cattle egret, a bird that has accompanied human activities for centuries.

"They used to follow cattle working in fields, feeding on bugs dug out after the plowing was done ... Now farmers have replaced oxen with tractors, which plow more efficiently, and the egrets have picked up in their steps, moving faster."
