Embassy spokesperson's remarks on UK official's wrong comment on China
Question: According to a Daily Mail?report on February 18th, the Director General of the Security Service (MI5) McCallum claimed that Britain's system and values face threats from "hostile countries", and that some countries, including China, are targeting MPs and advisers with "political interference activities". What is your comment?
Embassy Spokesperson: The accusation against China is just imaginary nonsense and malicious slandering. We express strong opposition and condemnation.
China is always committed to developing friendly and cooperative relations with all countries under the principles of mutual respect, equality and non-interference in each other's internal affairs. That is how we approach our relations with the UK. We do not need to and will not "target"?UK's MPs or advisers with "political interference activities", or threaten the system or values of the UK.
We urge the UK official to abandon the outdated Cold-War mentality, stop groundless accusation against China, stop spreading disinformation, and stop undermining the China-UK relations. So much for such old blame-shifting political?trick of a thief calling out "catch thief"!
