Top executives weigh in at CIIE (IV)
Susan Gu, general manager, Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, GSK Consumer Healthcare
A1: This is the fourth time for GSK to participate in the CIIE, the third time for GSK Consumer Health. CIIE is an important platform for us to engage with partners and consumers, collect market intelligence, exchange opinions, and communicate with key stakeholders. Chinese consumers' self-care awareness has grown amid the COVID-19 pandemic. At this CIIE, we exhibit a series of innovative products and solutions to cater to consumers' everyday health management needs.
A2: Facing the pandemic threat, hundreds of thousands of people from China and around the world gather under one roof of CIIE to talk about international business, this is an amazing achievement. It conveys strong signal of courage and confidence towards this country and its future. It shows China's commitment to opening up and sends a clear welcoming message to the world.
A3: China is the least pandemic-hit major economy, and is the biggest growth contributor engine to the world. China's effort to increase import shows the commitment of opening-up, shows the domestic market is robust and evolving fast, it also shows China is taking up responsibilities as a global leader. We see this a great opportunity to tap the growth through cross-border e-commerce platform, so that we can introduce GSK Consumer Health high-quality products from other markets to meet with Chinese consumers' rising demands for quality, diversity, and personality in the everyday health market.
A4: The everyday health market in China is evolving fast with the clear trend of consumption boost for quality rather than quantity. Consumers' self-care awareness is improving, and their needs are increasing. The Healthy China 2030 agenda sets a clear roadmap on healthcare inclusiveness, health awareness, and self-care management, in which we see opportunities that GSK Consumer Health can play well.
A5: Indeed. China is a most-improved place in the ease of doing business in the World Bank report. This shows in our experience doing business with China and in China. We are one of the beneficiaries of China's efforts to protect our intellectual property. Therefore, we have confidence to see further improvements in many more areas.
A6: CIIE is a good symbol that China is committed to the opening-up policy. Openness between China and the world has led to the formation of global value chains that are efficient and interdependent in the era of globalization. This provides a driving force for the steady development of the global economy.
A7: Without reform and opening-up, China would not be what it is today, nor would it have the prospects for a bright future. Shanghai's Pilot Free Trade Zone in Pudong is a great example of bold experiment and major breakthrough in opening-up. Useful experiences gained at this special area are spread and applied in many more places. China is one of the two "Must-Win Markets" at our global strategy. GSK Consumer Health made its investment by setting up a company in Lin Gang this year. This action is our vote for China's growth.
A8: At CIIE, we see a global village of win-win cooperation. At CIIE, China's support demonstrates it is an important player to promote global partnership for a shared future with prosperity.
