A significant number of Chinese travelers have made short-distance trip arrangements for the National Day holiday (Oct 1-7), according to Trip.com Group.

Ticket sales for scenic spots nationwide have risen by more than 30 percent compared to the same period last year, the country's biggest online travel agency reports.

As of Sept 21, destinations offering parent-child experiences saw bookings for the holiday surge by 71 percent.

Culture and tourism consumption for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day generally accounts for more than 5 percent of the whole year, says Zou Guangyong,? a professor with the Shanghai Business School.

"Affected by the uncertainty of the pandemic as well as control and prevention factors, travel distance and duration are still constrained," Zou says.

Immersive short-distance products are likely to be favored by the public, and the demand for high-end hotels, catering and distinctive rural homestays is expected to maintain significant growth, according to him.

Those born in the 80s and 90s are the major force in the holiday tourism market. Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu of Sichuan province, Shenzhen and Guangzhou of Guangdong province, Chongqing, Changsha of Hunan province, Sanya of Hainan province and Wuhan of Hubei province have topped the list of preferred travel destinations.
