Chinese Ambassador to Canada Cong Peiwu expressed his concern in a phone call with Meng Wanzhou, Huawei's chief financial officer, on Wednesday, the 1,000 day of her custody in Canada, according to the website of China's embassy in Canada.
Cong expressed profound sympathy and care to Meng, saying the Chinese side strongly condemns the wrong actions of Canada.
He emphasized that the Chinese government resolutely upholds the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens and businesses. Any attempt to bully and oppress the Chinese people will be severely answered.
Cong said China will continue to urge the Canadian side to face squarely the severe mistake they have made, the political nature of the relevant incidents, the solemn stance of the Chinese side and the strong will of the 1.4 billion-plus Chinese people, and make the right decision as early as possible to release Meng.
