Mainland to continue ensuring equal treatment enjoyed by Taiwan compatriots: spokesperson
BEIJING -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Friday stressed that various regions and departments will continue their efforts to ensure that Taiwan compatriots on the mainland enjoy equal treatment with mainland residents.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks when responding to a relevant question.
Starting from Oct 1, Taiwan people with residence permits on the mainland will be able to apply for old-age insurance in Beijing.
In response to smears from Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority, Zhu said this measure by Beijing is beneficial to Taiwan compatriots, but the DPP authority has been misleading and even threatening Taiwan people on this issue.
According to measures released in November 2019, Taiwan people on the mainland, no matter employed or not, can enjoy local old-age insurance using their residence permits.
Such measures were carried out based on suggestions from Taiwan people and are aimed to ensure their wellbeing, Zhu stressed.
