31st World University Games set to select delegate escorts
As a warmup to next year's 31st Summer World University Games, submissions will begin on July 12 for a nationwide selection of 180 female delegate escorts.
Estimated to draw more than 10,000 athletes from around 170 countries and regions, the games will be held in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, in Southwest China between June 26 and July 7 in 2022.
The selection of young ushers, who will lead delegates from these countries and regions to their positions during the opening and closing ceremonies, consists of four steps: application, shortlisting, training and announcement.
With multiple training programs involving everything from improving posture to language, the selection aims to choose female college students aged 18 to 25 who are 170 to 178 centimeters tall.
Shan Yichun, the champion singer of the popular variety show Sing! China 2020, has been invited to serve as the selection's ambassador.
Additionally, the Dong'an Lake Sports Park in Chengdu was renamed World University Games Park on June 26, and it will serve as the starting point of a running event to promote the selection, with Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan and Chongqing also joining the event as later station cities.
In another highlight, the event is set to invite former champions of the Olympics and World University Games to to attend its promotional events.
