A mainland spokeswoman on Monday urged the Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan to give up their separatist attempts for "Taiwan independence" and stop making so-called "diplomatic" breakthroughs in the international arena.

The video speech delivered by Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen at the recent so-called Copenhagen democracy summit, during which Tsai urged the Chinese mainland to respect Hong Kong's fundamental freedoms, once again exposed their political nature of seeking "independence" in international occasions, Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said in a statement.

DPP authorities have been using various platforms of some non-governmental organizations to conduct political manipulation under the guise of "democracy", Zhu said, adding that the latest speech was just another political manipulation under the name of democracy.

She also urged certain countries to abide by the one-China principle and not provide any stage or convenient way for DPP authorities to pursue independence in the international arena.
