Digital art brings new life to Dunhuang murals
The Dunhuang Academy, arguably the most influential research center for the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, Northwest China's Gansu province, has been working on the Digital Dunhuang project since the late 1980s, making it easy to share the treasured ancient mural art with the general public.
Researchers and conservation scientists have resorted to cutting-edge technologies in cultural relics protection and conservation to transform the ancient murals in the grottoes into digital art.
The Grandeur of Dunhuang, an ongoing art exhibition at the Beijing World Art Museum showcase the latest progress in this project, with an array of digitally-rendered artworks, is based on original murals from the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, in Northwest China's Gansu province.
The exhibition offers viewers an immersive experience, with duplicated caves, 3D sculptures, VR/holographic images, multimedia shows and on-site workshops.
