Kids theater kicks off 2020 performing season
Shanghai Children's Art Theater opened its 2020 performing season with a concert by the Little Choir of Antoniano from Italy on Dec 31.
The choir, which has performed at the theater for five years in a row, is considered one of the most popular performers at SHCAT. For the past two years, tickets to the choir's concerts in Shanghai were sold out quickly.
Since its opening six years ago, SHCAT has been constantly introducing new productions for audiences in Shanghai. By 2019, the theater had presented more than 2,700 shows that were attended by 1.26 million people.
The theater says its performance season for 2020 will consist of 40 productions by 22 companies from 11 countries. Aside from presenting fine productions from abroad, the theater will also focus on creating Chinese versions of popular foreign shows, as well as participate in the production of educational projects.
The goal of the theater, says Liang Xiaoxia, general manager of SHCAT, is to "push forward China's creativity for children's theater art".
