Steps in the right direction
The exhibition, the first comprehensive show of either Rainer or Wen in China, is curated by Simon Leung and Su Wei. Leung has worked closely with Rainer, and Su is a senior curator of the Beijing museum.
In keeping with the title Dance Only Exists When It Is Performed, the events surrounding the exhibition include reproduction of both Rainer and Wen's representative dance pieces.
At the opening ceremony on Aug 24, dancers recruited by the museum staged two of Rainer's important works, Trio A and Chair/Pillow, and they will continue to perform the dances and Wen's 100 Verbs at the museum in the upcoming months.
Apart from the exhibition and dance performances, the events include a range of lectures, workshops and screenings surrounding the artists' works that are due to run until Nov 24.a
