This year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up. After years of personal and professional engagement with China, Peter Ritzen, a Flemish pianist, composer and conductor, talks about the changes he has witnessed in China's music industry and the whole of Chinese society.

As a pianist, Ritzen has played throughout Europe, Asia and the US. But one of the biggest highlights in the musician's career has been his wide-ranging contact with Chinese culture, which has resulted in a rich repertoire of China-related compositions.
