Date: Dec 6-9 - 7:30 pm
Venue: National Centre for the Performing Arts
The Home Front is set in the background when Song (960-1279) and Liao (907-1125) dynasties are at war against each other. Song Dynasty, next to the Liao Dynasty, tries to rescue a "woman that has been taken away by the Liao people for marriage by force". Therefore, a series of contradictions emerge. The story takes place in "Baihudang", a sparsely-populated place on the border between the Song and Liao in the late Song Dynasty. The villagers of Baihudang, are enraged by Ge'anu, a soldier of the Liao Dynasty, because he takes Xuniang, a beautiful widow, away by force. The villagers try to cross the border several times to rescue her, but only end at being attracted by the rich Liao Dynasty. They gradually forget their original intention and get lost in the material enjoyment. They finally choose to return to their hometown and consider themselves "a royal member of their motherland when they are alive, or a soul of their motherland after death."
