'Ocean's 8' tops North American box office in opening weekend
20th Century Fox's superhero film Deadpool 2 came in third place with an estimated $13.65 million in its fourth weekend, pushing its North American cume to $278.6 million through Sunday. The film directed by David Leitch and starring Ryan Reynolds is the sequel to the 2016 film Deadpool based on the Marvel Comics character Deadpool.
A24's supernatural horror film Hereditary opened in fourth place with an estimated $13.03 million. The film directed by Ari Aster follows a family that begins to be haunted following the death of their reclusive grandmother.
"Not for the faint of heart, 'Hereditary' pushes the limits of horror and psychological terror to a terrifying level of intensity," wrote movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian at comScore in an email to Xinhua.
Disney and Marvel's superhero film Avengers: Infinity War finished fifth with an estimated $6.83 million. The film has brought in $654.7 million in North America and a massive $1,998 million worldwide through Sunday.
