Carved lacquer, or qidiao in Chinese, is a distinctive Chinese form of decorated lacquerware.
Most surviving examples are from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The lacquer pieces made by this technique cover a wide range, including practical containers, screens and pieces of Chinese furniture.
Yin Xiuyun is a master of the traditional Chinese lacquer-carving art. Her works fully demonstrate styles of the imperial lacquer works in Ming and Qing dynasties. Though retired, she continues to create marvelous exquisite lacquerware with her pupils.
