Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, the campaign to promote stricter self-governance has made great achievements. The leadership's firm determination to advance the anti-corruption campaign has helped strengthen public trust in the Party and enhanced the Party's capability to govern.

As the Party has more than 89 million members and governs a country of more than 1.3 billion people, its image, authority and governing capability directly determine not only its own destiny, but also the prospects of the country and the Chinese nation. With such a perception, the Central Committee with Xi Jinping as the core has chosen to face up to the problems within the Party and launched a sweeping campaign to improve its governing style and punish officials for any breaches of the Party's disciplinary rules.

Yet despite the undoubted progress that has been made in the Party's campaign for stricter self-governance, Xi continues to caution the task remains arduous.

At a recent meeting of provincial and ministerial-level officials, Xi stressed that an overwhelming victory in the campaign aimed at ensuring officials do not dare, cannot, and do not want to be corrupt has not been realized. He said the stricter self-governance of the Party must be never ending.

Given that any lax efforts may lead to the resurgence of the old problems, which will cause the Party to lose the trust of the people and put it in a precarious position, we should fully understand X's judgment about the need for the Party to maintain stricter self-governance.

Party members should keep a cool head whenever new problems and challenges emerge so that we can fully implement the requirements set by the top leadership for the Party's political environment and its governing style.
